Razor Ramon or Scott Hall? by Al Jaxson

Who would you pick?

So, Any avid wrestling fan who is around my age or older (I’m an old 30 yr old man now, losing my hair, the whole deal) then the name Scott Hall should definitely ring a bell. As should the name Razor Ramon.

Scott Hall, his actual name, rose up the ranks of professional wrestling pretty well and got his biggest character in his career as the tough talking, Tony Montana type macho man named Razor Ramon with WWE. This was around the early to mid nineties, before the attitude era hit. Razor was an immediate crowd favorite and he made a quick impact. His character was hilarious and he played it perfectly.

Even to this day, its one of my favorite characters ever. But some guys have a fantastic character but their ring skills are lacking. Not Razor. He had some flat out great matches in this period of time. His ladder match with Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania was revolutionary. It was an instant classic and if you haven’t seen it yet, you have my permission to stop reading this now and go to WWE Network and WATCH IT! You can always come back and read this later! Razor also had great matches with Bret Hart, Diesel, etc. It’s no surprise Razor was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame.

So Now lets fast forward to a couple years later ,around 1996, down south at Ted Turners Dubya C Dubya (that’s WCW Y’all). Razor Ramon is no longer Razor Ramon. He is Scott Hall. Scott Hall comes out from the crowd from nowhere on a Monday Nitro and gives a direct warning to the company that he’s coming to take over. The next week he brings company.

Diesel, now known as Kevin Nash (it’s a fact that Eric Bischoff wanted them to use their real names cause WCW wanted to be more real and less animated than WWE at that time), so it was now Hall and Nash. So that brings us to Bash at the Beach. It’s Hall and Nash and a mystery man on their mission to destroy WCW and take it over, vs legends Sting, Macho Man Randy Savage, and Lex Luger. And we all remember who that mystery man was dont we? Yep, the immortal Hulkster, Hulk Hogan.

That night, Hogan, Hall, and Nash formed the NWO ( New World Order) and became one of, if not the best stable in wrestling history. The NWO grew new members each week on Nitro and it just got silly. They even had a LWO at one point. ( Latino World Order). But the trio of Hogan, Hall, and Nash was magic. It just worked.

So now to the real point of this article: Scott Hall or Razor Ramon? Which character was better? Well, the first thing that pops out in my mind is the great wrestling matches with Razor Ramon. Scott Hall in WCW never had a ladder match with Shawn Michaels. Nothing even close to that although he had a very good match as Scott Hall at Wrestlemania 18 vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. So on the aspect of entertaining matches, Razor gets a point.

As far as being part of something historical, being a part of the original NWO was totally better for Scott Hall then being Razor Ramon. He was making more money and the NWO was doing something at that time that was driving the wrestling world crazy. If you didnt see a fan wearing an Austin 3:16 tshirt, then the chances were good that they had an NWO shirt on. So Scott Hall gets a point.

I guess the tiebreaker is up to you, the reader. The good news is we don’t have to choose cuz it’s the same guy and I’m sure he’ll get in the WWE Hall of Fame as Scott Hall as well as Razor Ramon. Scott Hall or Razor Ramon, its good either way!
