Was there any real question as to what the best match of the past week was? The WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout between Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Seth Rollins from Royal Rumble was not only the best match of the past seven days, it was the first real match of the year contender by WWE this year. And while I’m not much of a star-rating guy, respected analyst John Canton pegged this match at **** 1/2 out of 5 while Dave Meltzer went up to ****3/4 out of 5. That seems like the right neighborhood, so you know we’re dealing with a classic.
Lesnar was in absolute beast mode in this match and the rabid Philly crowd was loving him. I felt that Seth Rollins really came away looking like a star because he personally took out Lesnar with that elbow drop through the Spanish Announce Table. If it was one-on-one, he would’ve had him beat at that point. Then, Rollins battled Cena until putting him away with that amazing Phoenix Splash. Had it been a one-on-one match at that point between him and Cena, he would have won that match too. But it wasn’t one-on-one…Brock had several minutes to recover. He capitalized on the Phoenix Splash to take out Rollins and retain his title.
WWE did not release a video of this match on their Youtube channel so I didn’t link it. If you have the WWE Network and didn’t see either the original showing or the re-airing (in it’s entirety) on the following night of Raw then do yourself a favor and go watch this. However, if you don’t have the WWE Network then I guess you’re on your own. I don’t condone piracy but most people are aware that you can WATCH WRESTLING on certain (.) CHinese websites. But if you still can’t find a way to watch it after that extremely subtle hint then I don’t know what to do for you.
The only Honorable Mention I’ll put out their is the second best match from Royal Rumble. It was the fantastic pre-show match between Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Big E. Since I didn’t link the match of the week I’ll at least give you guys this one…
