Joining an incredible cast of recent WWE hires, independent wrestling machine Kevin Steen has joined the likes of Prince Devitt and KENTA to Titan Towers. Triple H, resident COO and on-air Authority, has been promoting this hire over various sorts of social media. Here’s an Instagram shot of the two…
Despite not having the muscle-bound look you’d expect to attract McMahon and Co., Steen has built a reputation the old fashioned way. He’s wrestled for 13 years and he’s won World and Tag Championships in both Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. One wrestler he’s both feuded with and held Tag gold with is El Generico, better known to an NXT audience as Sami Zayn.
The two have a much-acclaimed rivalry. In 2010, Wrestling Observer named the two’s battle Feud of the Year. NXT is looking to be more and more of a must-watch show in the coming days.
The twitter universe has had much praise for Kevin Steen’s big move. Legends in the ring and respected critics have all been supportive of this announcement.
While this writer has only limited exposure to Steen (I’ve seen a couple of his ROH matches), the buzz about him is to loud to ignore. He is sure to be a major player in the WWE and I wish him all the best.
With Steen, KENTA, and Devitt all headed to NXT, that is looking to be one solid hour of weekly wrestling. It could be the best pure hour of mat-work and reason alone to order the WWE network. This is the part where I say something about 9.99, I think.
